Focus
Research in Psycholinguistics and Cognitive Neuroscience spans several disciplines (and departments) such as linguistics, psychology, hearing and speech sciences, human development and cognitive and neuroscience. Faculty and students in these areas forged a network of collaboration at all levels with theoretical, experimental, and computational work typically pursued in tandem in a research climate that is both vigorous and friendly. Here new ideas develop in conversation, stimulated by the steady activity of our labs and research groups, frequent student meetings with faculty, regular talks by local and invited scholars, and collaborations with the broader University of Maryland language science community.
Students with interests in psycholinguistics and cognitive neuroscience can pursue one of the disciplinary PhD programs, or may enroll in the interdepartmental PhD program in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NACS). Consult prospective advisors for guidance on this choice. Many students with interests in this area pursue the NACS Certificate program in parallel with their disciplinary PhD program.
